The ruins of Bagan cover an area of 16 square miles (41 km2). The majority of its buildings were built in the 11th century to 13th century, during the time Bagan was the capital of the First Burmese Empire. It was not until King Pyinbya moved the capital to Bagan in AD 874 that it became a major city. However, in Burmese tradition, the capital shifted with each reign, and thus Bagan was once again abandoned until the reign of Anawrahta. In 1057, King Anawrahta conquered the Mon capital of Thaton, and brought back the Tripitaka Pali scriptures, Buddhist monks and craftsmen and all of these were made good use of in order to transform Bagan into a religious and cultural centre. With the help of a monk from Lower Burma, Anawrahta made Theravada Buddhism a kind of state religion, and the king also established contacts with Sri Lanka. In the 12th and 13th centuries, Bagan became a truly cosmopolitan centre of Buddhist studies, attracting monks and students from as far as India, Sri Lanka as well as the Thai and Khmer kingdoms. Among many other works, Aggava?sa's influential Saddaniti, a grammar of the language of the Tipi?aka, would be completed there in 1154. In 1287, the kingdom fell to the Mongols, after refusing to pay tribute to Kublai Khan. Abandoned by the Burmese king and perhaps sacked by the Mongols, the city declined as a political centre, but continued to flourish as a place of Buddhist scholarship.

Amazing Shopping Mall from Belgium
I’m not the fan of shopping malls and shopping, but I’ve visited several good looking malls during the years, but I’ve never seen something like this before. This mall is designed by Ron Arad Architects, and like all Ron Arad Architects’s buildings it has a unique design. As for this amazing mall, it is located near Santiago Calatrava’s high speed rail station in Liège, Belgium. This mall is named Médiacité and it has 1150 feet, or 350 meters, long winding spine that connects the two mall buildings together. I have to admit that this mall looks incredible and quite futuristic because of the complex network of steel roof ribs that hold the mall together. Besides holding the building together, these ribs arch over the mall’s main pathway creating a spectacular sight for its visitors. This mall is simply huge, and it’s well lighted due to the ribs that cross with each other. Great part of this mall is covered in translucent material, therefore this mall gets enough sunlight during the day, and besides sunlight, the roof provides one of the most amazing sights that you saw. Like I said before, this is one amazing mall, and if you’re visiting Belgium anytime soon make sure that you check this mall out.
Falcon-Inspired Museum
Foster + Partners recently unveiled this design for a museum on Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi. Named after UAE founder Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Zayed National Museum will be dedicated to the history and culture of the country.
Because of the Sheikh's love of falconry, the museum will feature five lightweight steel towers resembling birds’ wings. This theme is further celebrated by a gallery devoted to the subject, along with an outdoor arena for live displays with hunting birds.
Located within a man-made, landscaped mound, the galleries are anchored by a dramatic top-lit central lobby, which brings together shops, cafes, an auditorium and informal venues for performances of poetry and dance.

Prince Saint Vladimir – The World’s First and Only Chapel Boat
The Prince Saint Vladimir is basically an old boat converted into a floating church that could make the sacred relics on board accessible to people in remote areas along the Volga River.
This isn’t the world’s first floating church, communities living on water have built plenty of them all around the world, but the Prince Saint Vladimir (named after the saint who baptized Russia) is the world’s first self-propelled chapel boat. Built back in 2004, the unique church was designed to reach even the shallowest waters, so that all the people of the Volvograd region could have access to a church and priest. There were two other similar churches built before, but because they were practically converted barges, they could only be moved by tugboats. The Prince Saint Vladimir is, however, a self-propelled craft.
On September 13, 2010, the great river voyage of the Prince Saint Vladimir began. The floating church will travel around 3,000 kilometers along the shores of the Volga, from the river mouth, all the way to Moscow. It will make stops in both cities and small communities along the shores, allowing people access to relics of eight great saints from the era of the Undivided Church. Its voyage will take the sacred ship to areas that have suffered from drought and terrible wildfires, and the Russian Church hopes it will bring comfort to locals.
Along with the captain and ship crew, a priest will be on board the Prince Saint Vladimir at all times, and he will celebrate the Sacred Liturgy at every stop.

Latest Bridge Design Nanhe River Bridge
New York studio WXY Architecture has won a competition to build the Nanhe River Landscape Bridge in Xinjin. This is a historical town in China that has attracted many residents and visitors over the years. Here – in Xinjin, five rivers converge and the city has long been exalted by poets for its natural beauty.
WXY designs helix-shaped pedestrian and cycle bridge creating an iconic structure befitting the city’s role as a cultural destination. The design incorporates twining spans and is inspired by Xinjin’s breathtaking landscape. The bridge evokes the flow of the river it crosses – and like the main path in a great park, the journey across the bridge is an experience unto itself. Construction to this red bridge is due to begin later this year.

Infinity Bridge, Stockton, England
Infinity Bridge in Stockton, England cuts an uncommon silhouette across the River Tees. It is a 230m long concrete structure supported by a pair of asymmetric steel arches that appear to skip across the river like a pebble skimming water.
The lighting is made in such a way that the iconic twin arches reflect in the water at night to form the mathematical symbol for infinity.
The designers bounced blue light off the water to light the underbelly of the deck and form a blue zone above the water. Cold white light was used to reveal the structural form and create the sense of a floating wave hovering just above the deck..
Along the surface of the deck, light is responding to the presence of people, guiding them down the walkway or signaling the approach of visitors. There are blue and white LED units concealed under the handrail. When people cross the bridge, the sensors trigger a change from blue to white, leaving a ‘comet’s trail’ of light in the pedestrians’ wake.
No other bridge is known to have quite the same design. Competing in the awards for Structural Engineering Excellence against over 100 global entries, the Infinity Bridge went on to win the overall Supreme Award.

World's Biggest Private Residence
World's Biggest Private Residence
Marking the end of seven years of construction work, India's richest man Mukesh Ambani is planning a housewarming party for his 27-story palatial new home in Mumbai, replete with no fewer than three helipads and an air-traffic control station on its roof.
The 570-foot-tall glass tower, called Antilia, features a swimming pool, a health club, a salon and a mini-theatre. The first six levels comprise the garage where more than 160 cars can be parked. Atop the parking lot is Antilia's lobby, which has nine elevators. The house also has a garden that can accommodate trees, according to the Telegraph, and a separate ballroom. About 600 staffers will be required to run Antilia, named after the mythical island in the Atlantic.
The house belongs to Mukesh Ambani, who owns much of the oil and retail giant Reliance Industries. He is estimated to be worth about $27 billion. Experts told the Guardian that there is no other private property of comparable size and prominence in the world. Ambani, the fourth-richest man in the world, co-ran Reliance with his brother before the two had a falling-out and split the company.
