HTC Glacier Specs & Review: T-Mobile’s Ultra-fast Dual Core Android
HTC makes it in news for one reason or the other, this time rumor has it that the company is coming up with a Dual-Core snapdragon processor, which is going to outperform many of the currently existing smartphones in the market. The leaks are reporting it to be named as the HTC Glacier and if the rumors survive to become truth this will the first smartphone running a dual core processor. According to a screenshot from GLBenchmark (which has since been removed), the HTC Glacier outperformed a number of smartphones running the standard, 1GHz Snapdragon processor, which has a single core.
It seems like there was a benchmark data put on the site GL Benchmark which showed some really impressive stuff. The Glacier is the new name for a T-Mobile device originally code-named, Project Emerald. The image below shows you the comparison chart between the HTC Glacier, Motorola Droid X, HTC EVO 4G and T-Mobile G1, from the GLBenchmark site. Well considering the rumors that are going round we can only guess that this will be revolutionary for two reasons. Firstly, this will be smartphone that is more powerful than the PC’s that are present in the government offices and Secondly, it will have huge amount of speed up-boost from the single core smartphones that we are using nowadays.
Seeing the possibility that this news opens up in the smartphones industry- The newest version of the Android operating system shall be out by the time HTC launches this prototype model into the market The Gingerbread OS can do wonders with this processor and take the smartphone industry to a different level altogether. The iPhone shall be left way behind in performance than this new rumored smartphone from HTC.Qualcomm aired a dual core ARM processor (the 1.2 GHz dual-core Snapdragon variant) earlier this year, and announced plans to produce ARM quad-core processors by 2013. HTC has made heavy use of Snapdragon CPUs in its Android portfolio in the past, so this seems a likely candidate for the device’s CPU. It will supposedly have a 800MHz dual-core processor, 4.3-inch touchscreen, QWERTY keyboard, and 8 megapixel camera.
The new device has an 800×480 pixel screen, according to the original testing post.Despite having a dual core processor, it is worth noting that the performance is not much higher than that of Samsung’s stellar 1 GHz Hummingbird CPU found in its Samsung Galaxy S (aka. Fascinate, Captivate, Vibrant, etc.) Android handset, That said, it blows away Qualcomm’s past offerings.
The HTC EVO 4G and Droid 2 may be the current hot topic among Android enthusiasts, but the HTC Glacier is bound to be heating up discussions in the near future as well. So there you have it HTC is ready with a huge plan for the Android lovers? Are you one of them, one who collects info about new With a host of phones especially following the IPhone’s direction, it’s not hard to project what all OEMs are aiming at. The end of the game however still remains to be seen. Whether an IPhone killer will just raise another IPhone from the dead, or will banish it into exile for good, only time will tell.
